IT Major Wipro has sought 50 acres of land near Bangalore International Airport for establishing an IT Park, Karnataka Principal Secretary (Industry) V P Baligar said today.

Talking to newspersons on the sidelines of a Conclave on Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) organised by Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) here, he said, ''Wipro has applied for 50 acres of land in the new industrial belt coming up near the airport. ''The state high-level committee will consider it soon,'' he added.

When allotted, the proposed park would be the third location for the IT bellwether in India's tech hub, he claimed. The company's main software development centre is located in the electronics city on Hosur Road, about 25 km from here and another on Sarjapur Road in the southern suburb which is its corporate headquarters.

Meanwhile, a technical team of Hero Honda Motors Limited inspected three sites in Hubli-Dharwad Industrial Belt to set up a two-wheeler plant at an estimated cost of Rs 2,000 crore.

''We have shown two sites adjacent to Tata Motors bus plant. The company is looking for about 100 acre to set up the two-wheeler plant and another 200 acre for ancillary units and a township,'' Mr Baligar added.
