Facebook has taken the world by storm yet again! we’ve consistently being hearing rumors that Facebook has been all set to launch a brand new messaging system that would somehow dominate email in the current status quo. The rumors are now official, Facebook today launched its new messaging system, Social Messaging, but contrary to popular belief, its not email, as Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg made this announcement.

This particular messaging system hopes to revolutionize how people currently communicate through different platforms. This is basically designed as a platform-agnostic system enabling users to send and receive message via platforms like IM, mobile and Facebook. This system will provide ease of use by simply allowing users to communicate with friends across these platforms in real time. Simply put, this system merges friends, conversations, texts and emails into one neat bundle.

Apart from this, Facebook is also offering @facebook.com addresses to all of its users who seek one, considering the fact that many people would find it cool to have an email address that says Facebook in itself, this might be one quick sell. Facebook blog says:

We are also providing an @facebook.com email address to every person on Facebook who wants one. Now people can share with friends over email, whether they’re on Facebook or not. To be clear, Messages is not email. There are no subject lines, no cc, no bcc, and you can send a message by hitting the Enter key.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has said that the system will be gradually rolled out to the phenomenal number of members Facebook has in the next few months through an invite only process. It can only be assumed as to how users would react to this new feature, keeping in mind the privacy issues that irk most users. However, the request for an invite to Social Messages can be made here
